Spurs Profile

A spur is a short pointed or barbed wheel attached to the back of a rider's boot and used to spur the horse to run faster.
The use of spurs dates back to ancient Rome and beyond. The early spurs had a sharp head, which was formed by nelling from the inside of the boot. The spurs of the 11th century were straight, while the ones we use today with curved spurs weren't invented until the 12th century. In England, spurs appeared on the seal of Henry III and on 13th-century inscriptions. But spurs really came into widespread use in the 14th century.
